Team Civic Designs Innovative Fence for Ocean City’s Coastal Highway

Mayra Filippone PLA, Ken Schmidt PLA and Team Civic worked to create an aesthetically pleasing deterrent for jay walkers in Ocean City. The design draws on the dune fence as a motif with grasses planted in the median.

Amy Sametshaw’s Study is Published in Academic Journal

Mahan Rykiel landscape designer, Amy Sametshaw, assisted in researching and writing the journal article Proximity of public schools to major highways and industrial facilities, and students’ school performance and health hazards, published in the October issue of Environment and Planning B: Planning and Design. The study examined the proximity of Michigan schools to highways and industrial facilities, and analyzed the effects of these sources of pollution on school children’s health and academic performance.

JoAnn Trach Tongson Headed Planning Committee for B’more Stormwater Tour and Panel Discussion

JoAnn Trach Tongson of Mahan Rykiel headed the planning committee for the B’more Stormwater Tour and Panel Discussion, which highlighted low-impact development practices in Baltimore City and sought discussion relative to design, construction, maintenance, and trends; the event was sponsored by the MD Chapter of ASLA and the Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the ASCE Environmental & Water Resources Institute and attended by over 60 professionals.
