Mahan Rykiel Associates has been collaboratively working with the project Master Plan Architect on developing and designing the streetscape and open space for a new high density mixed use urban neighborhood within the Merriweather-Symphony Woods Neighborhood in Downtown Columbia.
The Neighborhood Square is designed to function as the heart and center of the Chevy Chase Lake development. Its open space and edges accommodate both daily uses such as outdoor dining and casual seating to programmed functions like concerts in the park, seasonal markets and festivals.
Preceding the Master Planning endeavor, Mahan Rykiel worked closely with the community to craft The Middle Branch Waterfront Framework Plan. This foundational document served as the guiding star for the Master Plan, outlining a comprehensive strategy to elevate waterfront recreation, establish resilient infrastructure, and foster regional biodiversity in South Baltimore.
Consistent with UMBC’s Master Plan, this project expands the Athletic Precinct of the campus with the design of this 5,000-seat multipurpose facility. Designed to accommodate NCAA D1 athletics, the facility will specifically house the basketball and volleyball programs, but will also be an important new venue for commencements, concerts, and other community and campus events.
Defining a new eco-urban district for the University of Maryland, the site design for A. James Clark Hall integrates principles from the fields of engineering and biology to support community and ecosystem health. Through a series of open spaces and pathways, the site affords students, scientists and medical professionals opportunities to come together to develop […]
