Consistent with UMBC’s Master Plan, this project expands the Athletic Precinct of the campus with the design of this 5,000-seat multipurpose facility. Designed to accommodate NCAA D1 athletics, the facility will specifically house the basketball and volleyball programs, but will also be an important new venue for commencements, concerts, and other community and campus events.

Mahan Rykiel is currently part of a team developing a campus master plan for two of Fairleigh Dickinson University’s campuses located in Madison and Hackensack, New Jersey. The Inn at Virginia Tech is a premier conference center, hotel and ballroom facility sited on an existing 18-hole golf course in southwestern Virginia. Mahan Rykiel led the design team for the renovation of the Academic Quad, a significant landscape which includes the most historic and iconic buildings on campus, mature canopy trees and a broad sweeping lawn. A major infrastructure repair project provided the impetus for the renovation which displaced existing walkways and introduced temporary ones.
This project involves a 105,000 SF expansion of the existing Mudd-Levi Science Building on the Homewood campus. This will include state of the art laboratories, faculty offices, meeting/ seminar rooms and a student commons/coffee bar. Landscape development incorporates improvements to an existing courtyard and realigned pedestrian connections to the rest of campus.
