Fairleigh Dickinson Master Plan

Madison and Hackensack, New Jersey

Mahan Rykiel was currently part of a team developing a campus master plan for two of Fairleigh Dickinson University’s campuses located in Madison and Hackensack, New Jersey. Mahan Rykiel was responsible for the landscape architectural component of the master plan and completed the landscape analysis.

MRA worked with the project team to develop landscape recommendations for each of the campuses which couldn’t be more different. The Madison or “Florham Campus” is located on the former Twombly Vanderbilt estate and is characterized by an Olmsted-designed landscape. The Hackensack or “Metropolitan Campus” is a suburban campus bisected by the Hackensack River. Mahan Rykiel built upon the landscape analysis to develop recommendations to enhance pedestrian circulation, guide placement of future program elements, develop long-term planting strategies and to protect and enhance the unique landscape characteristics of each campus.
