Mahan Rykiel Associates was hired by a local developer to design a $3 million, 28,000-square-foot civic greenspace and hardscape that will serve as the centerpiece of downtown Crozet and spur new development.

Streetscapes

MRA played an important role in this project by serving as a member of the General Engineering Consultants team. MRA developed design guidelines and specifications for the 18-mile roadway that covers densely populated areas and environmentally sensitive forests and streams.

Partly infill, the project includes retail, residential, office, hospitality, and neighborhood park components. A pilot project for the LEED Neighborhood Development rating system, it has already received a Silver certification.

Pentagon Row is a successful mixed-use community on Joyce Street in Arlington. Mahan Rykiel was charged with rejuvenating the plaza and increasing the seasonal programming space by half—while still allowing plenty of pedestrian circulation, and increasing planting areas within the reduced area.

Merriweather District

Mahan Rykiel Associates has been collaboratively working with the project Master Plan Architect on developing and designing the streetscape and open space for a new high density mixed use urban neighborhood within the Merriweather-Symphony Woods Neighborhood in Downtown Columbia.
