James joined Mahan Rykiel Associates in 2011. He holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from Penn State University where he was awarded the ASLA Honor Award and studied abroad in Rome, IT at the Pantheon Institute. As a Maryland native, James has cultivated an intimate knowledge of the regions cultural and ecological context, as well as, a broader sensitivity to issues of sustainability, which he brings to all his projects – both within the state and beyond.
James works across all phases of the design process from early conceptualization to construction documentation. Current projects include A. James Clark Hall and The Iribe Center at University of Maryland, as well as, the Biomedical Sciences and Engineering Building at The Universities at Shady Grove.
