Four Seasons

Baltimore, Maryland

Completed in 2011, the Four Seasons hotel is situated along the waterfront in Baltimore’s chic Harbor East district. The building is part of a larger 420,000 square feet development which includes the Legg Mason office tower.

Mahan Rykiel Associates was tasked with designing the ground level streetscape environment as well as the 4th and 5th floor amenity decks and outdoor spa treatment rooms. The 4th floor pool deck, the heart of the project, features a 120 ft long pool, fireplace, and multiuse sun deck. Material selections sought to strike a calm balance between the urban environment surrounding the project and the natural landscape of the Chesapeake Bay. Counterpart to the pool deck, the 5th floor amenity space features a wet deck, hot tub and cabanas overlooking the pool and Baltimore Harbor beyond. A lush and vibrant landscape dominate the 5th floor, providing for a relaxing and contemplative experience for visitors looking to relax in the summer sun and take in the views of Baltimore’s skyline.

Outdoor treatment rooms were designed to extend the men’s and women’s indoor spa facilities to the exterior. The spaces were envisioned as contemplative retreats where guests are able to receive treatments amidst a lush, contemporary garden setting.

Mahan Rykiel provided full design services for all exterior spaces on the project. The project was recognized by Condé Nast as one of the world’s hottest hotels for 2012.
